The righteousness of Christ invites
persecution; self-righteousness flees, for it cannot see the joy for the pain.
Suffering is the expected outcome of our crosswalk in obedience to Christ (Lk
9:23). “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer
persecution” (2 Tim 3:12). Even though the pain of persecution yields hurtful
tears, sharing in Christ’s suffering brings great joy!
We can only imagine what Jesus saw when
it was said of Him that He endured the cross for the joy that was set before
Him (Heb 12:2). Those who desire ... endures for the joy! Rejoice and be
exceedingly glad! “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is
working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Cor 4:17).
