Then Abraham fell on his face and
laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is
one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a
child?”
Abraham was ninety-nine when the LORD
made the announcement – I am El Shaddai (God Almighty)! Yahweh was on the verge
of doing the unthinkable, the unimaginable, the impossible, humanly speaking –
Sarah giving birth to Isaac at ninety; it was twenty-five years in the making
since leaving out of Haran for Canaan.
The same God talking to Abraham that day
so long ago lives within the hearts of those who have placed their trust in
Christ! I think Paul gave the best meaning of El Shaddai in Romans 4:25, “…what
He [God] had promised He was also able to perform.” Are we as fully convinced
as Abraham was of God's promises? Jesus, our El Shaddai, is the same yesterday,
today, and forever (Heb 13:8). <><
