This is nothing new of course. While visiting several
State Parks out West several years ago, I was amazed but not surprised to
witness the stark secularism in the presentation of the parks’ geological
features. It is obvious that a creationist and an evolutionist will view the
geological grandeur of the Grand Canyon differently, for example. Both share the wow factor,
but the former views the formation of the Grand Canyon as a result of the Genesis
flood and the latter due to natural processes over millions of years.
But according to the National Park Service
(NPS), its geology is “very young!” “Although rocks exposed in the walls of the canyon are
geologically quite old, the Canyon itself is a fairly young feature. The oldest
rocks at the canyon bottom are close to 2000 million years old [2 billion,
added]. The Canyon itself - an erosional feature - has formed only in the past
five or six million years” (http://www.nps.gov/grca/faqs.htm#old)!
Have you ever noticed whenever you
visit any national park, an on-site NPS ranger talks as if evolution is an indelible “fact” to explain the geological features of the park! It comes across as the only sensible explanation with a “natural” and “New Age” kind of feel to it! So it was when I
visited the Grand Canyon. Rangers were making the quantum leap
from theory to fact, concerning evolution with non-delicate ease and comfortable demeanor.
I was reminded that though we live
in a nation founded on the principles of Scripture, the U.S. has been on a slippery
secular slide on fast becoming a nation whose God is not Yahweh. The problem is that regenerate believers are of a minority in our country, and
we can anticipate no sweeping buy-in into biblical truth or air time in the future (2 Tim 3:12-13). Orthodox Christianity is based on a
superior authoritative source, God Almighty, who gave us His special revelation which we refer to as the Bible (2 Tim 3:16), not sourced in man (2 Pet
1:19, 20, 21), like evolution is with Charles Darwin.
It is natural for unregenerate man to scoff and ridicule
the Christian faith by challenging creationism because evolution is rooted in
darkness as with all other ideologies not sharing a biblical worldview (1 Cor 1:18; 1 Tim
4:1; cf. 1 Cor 2:14; cf Jude 1:19; 2 Cor 4:4; Col 2:8; 1 Tim 6:20; 2 Cor 10:5). It would be ludicrous for creationists
to expect an NPS ranger, working for a government that is in reality increasingly
becoming a “freedom from religion” government, to tell visitors of God’s
handiwork in nature or at least provide visitors with an alternate view; it’s simply
easier keeping God out of the park for whatever reason!
If you are cynical that
America will ever transform itself into a secular state by turning its back on
God, just pay a visit to a National Park anywhere. It’s only a matter of time
before Park doctrine and practice extend to the nation’s boundaries. If a nation
is blessed whose God is Yahweh (Psa 33:12), one only has to read the Holy
Writ of Scripture to see what happens to a nation that turns its back on Him; we
got all the symptoms, folks! “God is out of the Park,” and it’s heading toward our nation's boundaries! Best advice for today (2 Tim 3:14, 15, 16-17). <><
