M-G: 2.7.11 // Meant to be Seen, Matthew 5:14-16

(Mat 5:14) You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

(Mat 5:15) Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

(Mat 5:16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Like salt (Mt 5:13), light is a metaphor for kingdom influence. In a world of spiritual darkness in opposition to God, our light is to be visible and radiant to others, glorifying the Father. Those who are plugged in and switched on to beatitude living are shining their light before men. Light radiates and reveals. Men are drawn to the light or dispelled by it.

The Christian life is out in the open, visible, and illuminated by the light of the glorious gospel of Christ. As the moon reflects the glory of the sun, we are to reflect the glory of the Son. This is only possible if we walk in the light as He is in the light, nothing hidden, nothing shaded; we are meant to be seen. Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying,

“I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (Jn 8:12).

Beatitude behavior elevates us above the standards of the world, making us highly visible luminaries of the LORD. Jesus doesn’t give us a zillion ways to become light; He simply says we are.

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Eph 5:8).

We are either fulfilling or failing to be metaphors (salt and light) of kingdom influence in a world surrounded by decay and darkness. Salt and light you are if you know Him as Lord and Savior. The Light within us was meant to be seen. Shake and shine! <><
