There are really only two major comprehensive views of the world and of human life: secularistic and theistic. I will take this one step further from a conservative theological viewpoint. A true secularist does not have the Holy Spirit living within his or her heart (Cf. Rom 8:9b; 1 Cor 2:14); a true Christian does (Cf. Jn 14:17; Rom 5:5; 8:9, 11; 1 Cor 3:16; 6:19; Eph 2:22; 2 Tim 1:14; 1 Jn 3:24). This is a big deal because according to the Scriptures unless one is born again he or she cannot see the kingdom of God (Jn 3:3). The Holy Spirit only indwells those who have been spiritually regenerated (cf. Eph 2:8-9). No one can come unto God the Father except through Jesus Christ (Jn 14:6; Acts 4:13; Rom 6:23).
This may seem like a broad stroke of who is going to heaven or not (Cf. Mt 7:13), but there are religious people, even among those who call themselves Christian, who believe in the concept of God but do not have the Holy Spirit living within their hearts. The litmus test of whether a person is saved or not is whether the Holy Spirit is indwelling the heart. Naturally, anyone can make the claim that the Holy Spirit lives within one’s own heart, but the fruit of the Spirit will reveal the tree (Lk 6:44; Gal 5:22-23).
The secular world looks through various pagan prisms like Darwinism or some other theory advanced to keep God out of the calculus to avoid the alternative of accountability and any impedance in how they choose to live out their lives; humanism definitely loves its independence of God until those OMG moments…! Born again creationists, on the other hand, look at the universe through the lens of revelation (Genesis to Revelation), and puts forth an effort to live in harmony with the teachings of Scripture through the Holy Spirit.
I am of the opinion, that for the most part, non-theistic evolutionists and secular humanists are merely labels representing a gross attempt of not necessarily believing that evolution is true, or that man is the captain of his own ship, but strongly dislike the alternatives – creationism and accountability to God. If there was another cosmogony or another way to get around “fate,” they would jump ship and go with it. In actuality, the spiritually lost of God’s sublime creation struggles with recognizing, acknowledging, and submitting to the Creator’s authority rather than doing his or her own thing (Jdg 21:25).
Both non-theistic evolutionists and secular humanists reject the Bible as the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and practice. This is not to imply that all theistic evolutionists are true believers, for one can believe in the existence of a designer and still be an unbeliever. Though the Bible is non-scientific in nature when it speaks of what is considered in the realm of science, it is 100% accurate (Cf. 2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:20-21), and human creation is accountable to the Creator God.
Since this cuts against the grain of science, so-called, that treats evolution as fact, when in reality it is nothing more than a terrible theory, it is rammed down the throats of anything related to local, state, or federal governments. Such proponents reject the Scripture as authoritative, what a surprise! Now, as believers, we treat the truth of Scripture as fact, too, but admit it is a theory, a good one, and do not ram it down anybody’s throat. One person gets offended by Christianity today, and Christianity is treated as evil and taboo everywhere. The reality is this; no one has a right not to be offended, nobody.
The beautiful thing about the current administration in Washington is that we see more clearly just how penetrative and pervasive corruption is in our country, and where people stand on this or that issue. Personally, I have come to realize how naïve I was about the severity of the spiritual condition of our country, and just how complacent I had become in my own life in making a difference for the Kingdom and our country.
There is no doubt; the-end-justifies-the-means is alive and well to those who would tear or bring our country down. I still agree with a well-respected evangelical leader that 9-11 was the precursor of judgment coming upon America, a shot across the proverbial bow. It was a costly one, indeed.
People are offended by the notion that America is under judgment, and they will continue to be offended and deny judgment is upon us even while our country is in the throes of being destroyed from within! Morality and ethics are in a major landslide, unmoved by the fall of the Twin Towers. Everyone is doing what is right in his or her own eyes which always invites judgment; all you have to do is read the book of the Judges. It may not be immediate, but it will invariably come.
We make our boast of being the greatest and most powerful nation on the earth, and yet, we cannot stop the moral implosion from within. We are crumbling without Christ, individually and nationally. Recall the words of Jesus,
“… ‘Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls’” (Lk 11:17).
Read John MacArthur’s comment on this verse which could be said of America,
“This may have been a subtle jab at the Jewish nation, a kingdom divided in the time of Jeroboam, and still marked by various kinds of bitter internal strife and factionalism, right up to the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70” (emphasis mine; 2005, The MacArthur Bible Commentary, 1300).
Do you sense the parallels between what happened to Jerusalem in 70 A.D. and what is happening in the United States of America today? This is not about political affiliations as a believer. If we violate the principles of Scripture for whatever crusade we deem worthy, we are not serving the LORD nor promoting the Kingdom but our own agenda or someone else’s; this is neither spiritual nor smart!
Consider this day which side, of the coin, are you really on: God’s way or the way of the world, heads or tails? <><
“And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” (Jos 24:15).
