M-G: 12.1.16 // Open Borders

“All roads lead to heaven” or another way of stating it is that there are many ways to reach the same destination. Universal salvation of spiritual open borders sounds so attractive and appealing, doesn’t it? Everyone ends up in a better place; it doesn’t matter about your place of origin or what you believe!

There is this one major stickler in Scripture, however; it is by far one of the most dissentious truths to be found in all of Scripture because it emphatically declares all other ways to heaven are wrong! When Jesus said those words in John 14:6, I don’t recall Him ever saying to Thomas with the other disciples listening, “I am a way, a truth, and a life,” suggesting He is but one way, one truth, or one life of many! No, Jesus’ words were very exclusive and to the point in answering Thomas’s question, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way” (Jn 14:5)?

“Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” [emphasis mine].

The definite article “the” is, for lack of a better word, very definitive! It narrows the field to a small solitary entrance; it takes the erroneous broad, open borders mentality and reduces it to a secured vetting process; “you must be born again” (Jn 3:3). There are no illegal immigrants in heaven. All peoples of the one race, the human race, are invited into God’s country (Jn 3:16), but they only are allowed to enter through “the Way,” Jesus Christ.

It has never been about open borders in glory. The devil has flipped this thing around to get those who do not know the Lord into thinking that salvation is simply wanting to cross over into God’s country on your own cognizance, convenience, and conditions; God doesn’t have a say in the matter (contrast Jn 6:44). But here is the truth about spiritual open borders; there are none,

(Mat 7:13)  Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
(Mat 7:14)  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

 So said Jesus.

Do you want open borders? Here is the best one that I know of, found in John 8:32,

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” <><
