“Right now counts forever.”   – RC Sproul

Every moment we have the opportunity to choose between doing something that has temporary value or lasting value. Since this world is “passing away,” this has to do with spiritually living with eternity in mind, doing those things in this passing scenery that count or last beyond the physicality of this world.

Let me describe temporal or brief as “poof,” a sudden disappearance – “Poof, it’s gone,” “Here one moment, gone the next.” CT Studd said it well, “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.”

Focusing on the “poof,” or concentrating on the things of this world, was described by one commentator as “rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.” The “poof” is in the pudding! Look around at all you possess and understand; this too shall pass away from sight, but “he who does the will of God abides forever.”

Right now counts forever; poof counts for nothing!  Let me paraphrase James, "What is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then poof" (James 4:14). Choose wisely right now; our time here is shorter than we think.

“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”    – Jim Elliot
