And Sarah said, God has made me laugh, and
all who hear will laugh with me.
Sarah gives birth to a son of promise; she is 90. Abraham was 100. Who would have thought? When she heard that she was going to have a child, her laughter of unbelief turned into rejoicing (Gen 18:12). The burden of being childless was lifted.
We can identify with Sarah, for there have been times when we laughed within our hearts at the impossibility of a promise made by God (cf. Gen 18:14). Everything about it smacked of inconceivable, outlandish, and ridiculousness. And when the impossible happened, we laughed with another kind of disbelief, the shaking of our heads kind.
God just did the impossible, the
unthinkable for Abraham and Sarah! This miracle defied all laws of nature; yet, it happened because God said it would happen. The simple truth of the matter is
that we all struggle to take God at His Word on a regular basis. If God says it;
it’s going to happen; that’s it. There is no need to laugh, no need to scoff,
no need for explanation, only anticipation of the promise for He is God
Almighty. There really is nothing too hard for Yahweh (Gen 18:13) and that
should make our hearts leap for joy! <><
