And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
Though not the first manifestation of
faith in the life of Abram, the all-important verb believe in our English Bible
makes its first appearance here. It’s a big word, a life-changing word. It
simply means to trust. It strips away all notions of being in the right
standing with God by any human effort. Abram was accepted by God as righteous
because of Abram’s faith in God's ability to perform what He promised. How much
stock do we put in the promises of God? If we are of the seed of Abraham, our
faith in the promises of God should be constant. Without faith, it is
impossible to please God. <><
